Set sail for Mersea Island’s 40th annual Mersea Week
Spending a lot of time on (hopefully, not in) the water during with week, which runs from Sunday 18th until Friday 23rd August, will be Fenn Wright negotiator Graham Frost and his fiancée Associate Partner and New Homes Manager Maria Montgomery.
Graham is a member of the Mersea Week organising committee, as well as being the Principal of the Dabchicks Power Boat School. Recent alumni have included Fenn Wright Managing Partner Alan Williams who put his training to good use in the Balearics recently.
As Fleet Safety Leader, Graham has been responsible for finding suitable safety boats and crews and will be controlling all the rescue boats operating during the week. Maria will be assisting as crew. Peter Fitt is the Race Officer with overall responsibility for the event .
Graham said: “Fenn Wright are sponsoring the racing on Thursday 22nd this year and we will have advertising at both clubs with an announcement from the committee boat to all competitors before the start of the yacht races. We then have prize giving in the evening where a Fenn Wright representative will present the prizes for the day”.
As this is the 40thanniversary of the event, there will be a spectacular display of 12 Metre match racing between the famous Crusader and Italia, from the 1987 Freemantle America’s Cup.
“Mersea Week is growing in popularity every year, “ Graham said. “ Last year there were more than 80 dinghy and around 100 yacht competitors and we may well exceed that number this year. It’s thanks to the generosity of sponsors like Fenn Wright that we can keep entry fees low so people keep coming back. Everyone has a great time.”
On Saturday 24th August the West Mersea Town Regatta takes place, with yacht and dinghy racing in the morning, water sports in the afternoon and a grand fireworks display in the evening.
