General information

Where?

The village has a medical centre, a well stocked store, a Church and The Swan Pub. The nearest primary school is found in the neighbouring village of Bawdsey. A signpost in the village indicates that Ramsholt is only about two miles away and The Ramsholt Arms, which overlooks the River Deben, is a popular gastro pub which also attracts the sailing fraternity. The mouth of the River Deben is found at Bawdsey Ferry with the coast accessible via a footpath which leads down from the centre of Alderton as well as at East Lane in Bawdsey. Woodbridge is the nearest market town about nine miles away and has extensive facilities including an array of independent and multiple shops principally grouped in and around The Thoroughfare with more specialist outlets found on the Market Square which has The Shire Hall, a notable local landmark, at its centre. Woodbridge has highly regarded schools for students of all ages in both the state and independent sectors. The town has other facilities including a library, cinema, swimming pool, a variety of restaurants, medical facilities, two hotels as well as a railway station with links running through to Ipswich, Suffolk's county town. From Ipswich there are frequent services to London's Liverpool Street station. Sport and recreation is well catered for in the surrounding area with golf courses both inland and on the coast at Aldeburgh and Thorpeness, while sailing is a popular activity enjoyed on the tidal rivers Deben, Alde and Orwell or at sea. A number of clubs cater for a wide variety of interests and there are many attractive walks and rides within the picturesque Suffolk countryside.

The property

The property occupies a very good position in the heart of the village set back from the road and with views over the Churchyard which adjoins the rear boundary. The property which is built in the chalet style has accommodation arranged on two floors and has the added flexibility provided by the ground floor Bedroom which has an En Suite Shower Room. The former Garage has been adapted to create a Study/Music Room but could revert to its former use if preferred. It would be beneficial to undertake some general modernisation and improvement to bring the property in line with current day standards and it would appear Chenies Cottage would be equally suitable for occupation as a permanent, holiday or weekend home.

The outside

The garden the area behind the house is enclosed by fencing with climbing plants and shrubs providing good privacy. There are pedestrian accesses on either side of the property leading round to the rear from where there are views to the Church. Curved patio with a lawn beyond with shaped flower and shrub borders. Timber and felt roofed garden shed to one corner and an oil storage tank screened by trellis panels. At the front of the property there is a brick wall with an entrance to one end on to the gravelled drive which provides parking for the property. There is a lawn, cherry tree, shrubs and a eucalyptus tree beside the timber and felt roofed workshop/store.
