Graduate success at Fenn Wright

01 Jul 21

We are delighted to announce that John Logan and Hamish Stone successfully completed the APC process (Assessment of Professional Competence) to become fully fledged Members of the RICS.  Both joined Fenn Wright in late 2016 and have been supported through their APC’s whilst working full time, John in our Chelmsford office and Hamish based in Ipswich.

The APC is the final hurdle for Surveyors before they earn the title of ‘Chartered Surveyor’, recognised with the MRICS designation (Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors).  The process involves a structured training programme, culminating in a formal assessment and gruelling interview process.  We are delighted that Hamish and John were successful and now join our team of Chartered Surveyors, working within our Commercial division.

John Logan commented “The APC process was challenging, but I am thrilled to have qualified as a Chartered Surveyor.  Having joined Fenn Wright with an undergraduate degree in History and Geography, I had to undertake an accredited Master’s degree in Real Estate to be eligible to sit the APC.  The whole process has required a substantial amount of dedication whilst working full time, but Fenn Wright supported me throughout the process.  The number of experienced Surveyors within the firm has allowed me to draw on a vast knowledge base, and in turn, assisted me in becoming a Chartered Surveyor.”

Hamish Stone added “I am delighted to have completed the final step in my long journey to becoming a Chartered Surveyor by passing the APC.  Fenn Wright have been supportive from the outset by enabling me to complete my Master’s degree in Real Estate through UCEM and then finally guiding me through the required 24-month structured training programme in the lead up to the final APC assessment.  Fenn Wright were able to provide me with excellent advice on my case study through to facilitating numerous mock assessments.  I am now looking forward to starting this new chapter at the firm as a Chartered Surveyor.”

Partner, Nigel Berry has been responsible for the APC training programme at Fenn Wright for around 15 years, where he has overseen a number of successful candidates obtaining their Membership of the RICS.  He has acted as their APC counsellor, assisting with meeting their required competencies and preparing them for their final submission and interview.

Nigel had this to say about the success “I’m pleased both Hamish and John have passed their APC’s successfully.  It’s a challenging process, but their dedication has shone through and I am sure they will both make a brilliant addition to the RICS.”

The Partners of Fenn Wright have always been keen to support staff in furthering their careers at the firm, offering a comprehensive package to graduates who wish to undertake the APC process.  This support applies to all areas of the business where we offer training and career progression to ensure our team are best placed to support our clients.
