Stunning family home in Essex, ideal for gardening enthusiasts
A couple who dedicated more than two decades to transforming an almost derelict house into an exceptional home have decided to ‘let another family love it now.’
Michael and Julie Bradley moved into Paternoster House in Tolleshunt Knights, Essex, more than 20 years ago with their two sons.
“It was almost derelict when we moved in. We have lovingly rescued it from the ruins over the years. It’s been a labour of love,” said Mrs Bradley. “But it’s time to let another family love it now and not let it fall into rack and ruin.”
Such is their love affair with Paternoster House, the couple are moving into a two bedroom eco house to be built on land that used to belong to the property in a private and secluded area.
On the market with Fenn Wright Signature, Paternoster House has six bedrooms and sits in 3.11 acres with two detached cart lodges and three ponds. The grounds also include a heated outdoor swimming pool, an enclosed flower garden and a meadow.
“The garden really is magnificent, said Mrs Bradley. “It’s perfect for children with plenty of hidey holes for hide and seek and den building. It’s also a wildlife haven. We get visits from wild ducks, kingfishers, geese and swans.”
Inside the property, which has no onward chain, there are six reception rooms, including a very striking garden room and four bathrooms that have all been renovated to an exceptional level. There is also a galleried landing with views over the garden and towards the River Blackwater.
The property is set back from the road with a shingle drive in the rural village of Tolleshunt Knights, which is within easy reach of Colchester and Maldon.
