Why use a Building Surveyor to manage your project?

Building Surveyors play a vital role throughout the design and construction phases, and it is the responsibility of the team at Fenn Wright to navigate this, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and on budget.
A successful project needs to begin with a clear brief which we develop with the client to understand their vision and expectations for the project. We offer services from full detailed design and specification to establishing high level employer’s requirements for use with design and build contracts.
The tender process is key to obtaining accurate pricing and requires careful consideration of the project detail to select the correct contractors to undertake the work. Our detailed analysis of the tender process results in concise reporting to the client, allowing them to make informed decisions and select a suitable contractor.
Throughout the construction phase, our Building Consultancy team undertake site visits at relevant stages in the process and provide advice throughout the project as it develops. As part of our role, we provide contract administration services including provision of payment, drafting and issuing payment certification and ensuring valuations undertaken throughout the construction process are in line with the progress. We hold regular site meetings with stakeholders to provide project updates, ensuring that the client remains informed.
Often associated with the final stages of a project, we try to address any snagging issues with the contractor as they arise and engage before the project draws to a close. This can avoid or minimise any breakdown in relationships and helps to keep the project running smoothly and to time.

Claire Bates of Strangford Management commented “Donald Barber very quickly established himself as our firms go to surveyor, demonstrating an extremely keen eye, strict control of costs and proficient in contractor management.
I have personally worked with Donald on many contracts, ranging from simple external redecoration projects to more complex programmes of works, including the rebuilding of a chimney on a Grade II Listed, 300 year old property, and the redesign and installation of balconies on a block of flats following failure of the original structure.
Donald demonstrates the knowledge of a surveyor who has been in the industry much longer than he has. His client care is second to none and I have always had the confidence that any of my clients would be in the safest of hands with Donald, no matter the project. This is why he continues to be one of the only surveyors I work with, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to my clients and my industry peers.”
A key area of added value often arises during the construction phase whilst monitoring the works and ensuring the detail of the specification is followed by the contractor. Fenn Wright are often instructed to resolve defects where works have been undertaken and have subsequently failed prematurely. This, along with troubleshooting defects and specifying suitable repairs is a key area of our work and something our clients benefit from across the board.
Our Building Consultancy team work closely with clients, stakeholders and the wider project team to provide professional and effective management throughout the project lifecycle. With a wealth of technical expertise and understanding of regulations, our Building Surveyors can help deliver projects on time, within budget and finished to a high standard.
