As part of our Signature collection is this delightful four bedroom detached period cottage, full of charm and character close to the centre of this peaceful village with views over countryside over the River towards Wivenhoe.

Thornfleet is believed to date back to the 15th century, however is not listed. With later additions, the cottage is in good condition and has pretty front and rear gardens, ample parking and garaging.

An entrance door opens to a double height hallway with stairs leading up to the first floor galleried landing. Exposed studwork separates the hall from a cosy sitting room with exposed timbers and a central fireplace. A door leads from the hall to a living room which enjoys a dual aspect, fireplace and exposed timbers. An original timber feature door leads through to the study with its dual aspect a door to the front with vaulted ceiling and exposed timber with a final door onto s shower room with tiled shower cubicle, toilet, wash basin and heated towel rail.

At the rear of the cottage is a boot room with a door to the outside exposed timbers and redbrick fireplace. A door leads through to the kitchen/breakfast room with exposed timbers and flagstone floor. Roll topped worksurfaces have ample cupboard and drawers beneath with wall mounted shelving and a bank of storage cupboards which include a built-in oven and integral fridge and freezer. There is plumbing for a washing machine and a dishwasher. The AGA provides a focal point and is gas fired whilst at the end of the room is a seating area and space for a table. The dual aspect has views over the garden and a stable door leading out.

The galleried landing has exposed timbers, storage cupboards and recess space and provides access to all rooms. The principal bedroom is at the front and enjoys views over the front garden and across the countryside towards Wivenhoe. Along one wall is a range of built in wardrobes including drawers whilst along another wall is a chest box for storage. The second bedroom is also at the front with a bay picture window with delightful views over the roman river valley. The room also has a number of exposed timbers. The third double bedroom is by far the most unique with a dual aspect and useful storage cupboard, it also has bespoke curved steps up to a mezzanine level where there is currently a bed and leaded light triangular window. The final fourth bedroom is approached through a low door to a delightful room with exposed timbers, shelving and window overlooking the rear gardens.

Finally on the first floor is the main bathroom with a panelled bath with independent shower above, pedestal wash basin and toilet. The room has some exposed timbers and two useful storage cupboards whilst at one end of the room is the airing cupboard.

Outside
The cottage is well screened from Church Road by mature hedging with pedestrian gate and pathway leading through the front gardens to the main entrance. The path is flanked on either side by lawns with well stocked flower and shrub borders. The garden is enclosed to the side by hedging which beyond is a long vehicular drive that leads down to the garaging 16’1” x 14’5”. A gate leads through to the rear gardens which have a patio terrace with space for table and chairs leading out on to lawns which are interspersed with shrubs and fruit trees forming a delightful setting for the cottage.
